Our Story

Travis and Marine

Travis Marks grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan hunting and fishing with close friends and family. After moving to Sheboygan and Appleton, he settled down in Madison, Wisconsin to work for Michels Construction. He remains an avid fisherman and bow hunter/archer, but has now also taken up cooking, building fishing lures, and spending time with his dogs.

Marine Bruno grew up in France but moved to Florida as a child. She attended Emory University for her undergraduate degree, after which she moved to Madison, Wisconsin. She has a Master's Degree from Marquette University, works in the public sector, and owns a small business called Not A Bot LLC. Her free time is typically spent at home writing code or reverse engineering mobile applications, or tanning on the boat while Travis fishes.

How They Met

Like a true modern love story, Travis and Marine met on Tinder! After a few days of being ignored, Travis gave up. A week later, he reached back out again asking for a phone call while he was driving. Marine said yes, and the rest was history! They had their first date less than a week later, moved in together one month later, and grew their pet family from 3 to 6.

The Proposal

Picture of The Proposal

Kitch-iti-kipi, a beautiful spring in the upper peninsula of Michigan, was Travis and Marine's first road trip. It also happened to be where Marine first met Travis' mom. Two years later, Travis asked Marine's father for her hand in marriage. On October 30th, he surprised her with an impromptu trip to Kitch-iti-kipi. On the way there, the two stopped at Marine's family home, where Travis grabbed the engagement ring. Marine had a subtle suspicion that he may be proposing - his trip to her parents' home the week before, the need to stop by her parents' the morning of, Travis doing all of their laundry the day before and telling her to wear something nice - but she wasn't certain. Travis, Marine, and Travis' mom headed to Kitch-iti-kipi together, but there was no proposal on the boat itself! Instead, the three walked together by an abandoned cabin near the spring, where Travis surprised Marine by getting down on one knee.
